Statement of Intent

The plan for my thriller is going to be a murder mystery thriller following the story of an investigator group following the murder of their leader. The leader’s best friend is in-charge of the investigation, to track down the mysterious killer, who is believed to be posing as an ordinary citizen – or a member of the group itself. Each episode will focus on investigating each person, saving the new leader and their co-leader for the last episodes, where the truth will be revealed.

For my print advertisement, I will be making a murder mystery style thriller which complies with the rules of the ASA. The pictures will try to avoid content which can cause viewers fear or distress but will likely include implied but limited violence to ensure it sticks to the genre. This means there will be limited blood, and some weapons, though these weapons will not be in use. The poster will not contain imagery that condones violence to ensure it complies with the rules set out by the ASA. I will regularly check to make sure images comply with these rules. Any images that are not complying will be edited to ensure they are appropriate for the location and rules set. My product will be broadcast after 9pm because the content included will be unsuitable for viewing by children

As the show is centred around a killer and a group of investigators, the investigators will be represented positively as the protagonists to create a positive appeal, for audiences to engage. In contrast, the killer will remain faceless, creating an appeal through the mystery created. The social groups represented would be investigators and killers. Moreover, the LGBTQ+ will be represented in the posters, with the protagonist identifying as non-binary – this will likely appeal to the target audience, who is typically more in tune with this group.

My thriller needs to appeal to the 15–24-year-old audience, and my posters will reflect that. The characters will be represented positively as youths to create a relatability appeal (Personal Identity, Uses and Gratifications) for the target audience – this also allows the audience to feel represented in this genre. Crime thrillers also appeal to younger audiences, so a murder mystery thriller is specifically targeted towards this particular audience. Fonts, colours, images and text will be carefully considered so they target the specific audience. I will also consider using intertextual references to modern media which would appeal to the audience.
